Face Time, Tweets and Text

It’s gone so much further than Laugh Out Loud (LOL)…

Here are some common shorthand messages, acronyms and tweet shortcuts that make keeping it short and simple a little easier:  There are seriously thousands in use, so usually a group of friends will have their own favourites and each friend would know what the others meant.

# hashtags – example: #fluvaccine or #twilight. A category your tweet belongs to. Searchable. Recommended no more than 3 hashtags per tweet.

Leet = elite usage of an online code. Keyboard symbols replace words in Leet language.  Now also means someone who is great at using it. “She’s Leet.”

Noob – newbie, or newcomer.

Smacktalk (also Trash Talk) – inflammatory (rude/crude) online or gaming language. Also in sports.

IMAO = In My Arrogant Opinion

ICYC = In Case You Care

JK = Just Kidding

ASAYGT = As Soon As You Get This

C/S = Change of Subject

DKDC = Don’t Know Don’t Care

GL = Good Luck

HTH = Hope This Helps

RUT = Are You There?

**Note: Many online acronyms include bad language or swear words, so those are not listed here.  If you wanted to use them properly, then the first letter of the curse word would be inserted into the appropriate spot in the acronym***
