Let’s Pond-er

A happy frog is at one side of a pond that is 20 metres across. Each day he hops to new lily pads 5 metres away, but after finding new bugs to eat, he floats back 4 metres each night.  How many days will it take him to cross the pond?

Star-Crossed Math

Can you put each of these numbers in one of the star’s circles so that each row of four numbers adds up to 100?

16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 28, 32, 36

Answer:

It will take the happy frog 16 days to cross the pond.

You might think it would take 20 days, since he travels across 5 and back 4 metres each day and night, making him actually travel only 1 metre per day, but on the 16th day, he will reach the other side and will not float back the 4 metres anymore.
