Are You a Good Sport?

In every game or competition, there must be a winner or winning team, and a loser or losing team.  That’s a fact.

It isn’t possible to win every time, and this is why every person must learn to accept a loss with a good attitude. And a bad loser or poor sport is no fun to be around or to play with!

Show others what good sportsmanship is all about:

Be polite to everyone you're playing with and against. No trash talk—saying mean things in the middle of the game.

Don't show off. If you are good at the activity, people will notice, so just play your best.

Tell your opponents "good game", no matter if you win or lose.

Learn the rules of the game.

Be respectful – show up for practices and games on time even if you're the star of the team.

Listen to your coaches and follow their directions about playing.

Don't argue with officials.  A call already made is over, even if you don’t agree with it.  And if you don’t understand a call, talk to your coach or the official after the game so you can learn about it.

Don't make up excuses or blame a teammate when you lose. Try to learn from what happened.

Be willing to sit out so other team members can get in the game — even if you think you're a better player.

Play fair and don't cheat.

Cheer for your teammates even if the score is 1,000 to 1! You could inspire a big comeback!
